The following are a few of the career opportunities that may be available at ECTC.
Licensed Nurse (BSN, RN, LPN)
The Nurse provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, and disabled persons in health care facilities by performing the following duties in compliance with facility policies and procedures. The Nurse’s role is to assist Director of Nursing in evaluating resident’s care; take appropriate action to supervise and assess adequate staffing to provide resident care; follow physician’s orders, care plans, facility policies and procedures to treat residents and complete required documentation for care provided; and implement facility procedures to provide resident care and facility service.
The Licensed Nurse must:
- Be a graduate of and in good standing from an accredited nursing program.
- Maintain Illinois nursing license.
ECTC employs about 20 full and part-time nurses. The shifts are generally 6a-2p; 2p-10p; and 10p-6a.
QMRP (Qualified Mental Retardation Professional)
The QMRP is the Case Manager who leads the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) to coordinate, implement, and evaluate all services required to meet the needs of individuals served. The QMRP will promote quality of life for individuals served with cost-effective outcomes, in accordance with facility policies and procedures. The QMRP must have:
- Minimum education requirements consistent with federal and state regulations. Minimum education can be a psychologist; a physician; a social worker with a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree from a school of social work accredited or approved by the council on Social Work Education; a physical or occupational therapist; a speech pathologist or audiologist; a registered nurse; a therapeutic recreation specialist; a professional who possesses a bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in a specialty area such as art, dance, music, physical education or recreation therapy; or a human services professional who has a bachelor’s degree in a human services field other than those noted above, such as rehabilitation counseling, special education, or sociology.
- One year of direct care experience with the persons with mental retardation required.
Resident Care Specialist (RCS)
The role of the Resident Care Specialist is to provide for the daily care, comfort, safety and health needs for the residents/clients by utilizing the Nursing Assistant training certification guidelines. The RCS assists the resident with bathing, dressing, grooming, dining, incontinent care, gross motor skills and language skills. The RCS follows the Care Plan and Individualized Program Plan for his/her assigned residents/clients.
To qualify for the RCS position, an applicant must have completed at least eight years of grade school or provide proof of equivalent knowledge, however, a High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is required for employment in Day Training Department.
An RCS must have successful completion of a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program, including passing of the certification exam.
- Persons enrolled in a Child Care/Habilitation Aide training program, in a Developmental Disabilities Aide training program, or in a Department approved basic Nursing Assistant training program must successfully complete the program no later than 120 days after the date of initial employment.
- Acceptable verification of training and competency evaluation from State Nurse Aide Registry and no finding in any Registry concerning abuse, neglect, mistreatment of residents or misappropriation of residents’ property.
- DSP training class for all direct care staff must be completed within 120 days of employment unless proof of prior DSP training is verified through the State of Illinois Health Care Worker Registry. ECTC is approved to provide DSP training.
ECTC employs approximately 70 Resident Care Specialists in the Nursing and Day Training Departments. The position can be full or part-time. The Nursing Department shifts are generally 6a-2p; 2p-10p; and 10p-6a. The Day Training shifts are generally 8a-4p and 9a-5p.
Resident Attendant/Activity Assistant
The Resident Attendant (RA) plays a dual role at ECTC. They assist the nurse aides with designated resident care - specific areas of dining, grooming and oral care; and they also provide implement various programs for the Activity Department (arts/crafts, community outings, dances, etc.)
ECTC provides the training for the state-approved Resident Attendant program.
